Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Recover

If your Google Business Profile (GMB) is suspended, here's the exact reinstatement process: hard vs soft suspensions, common causes, the appeal form.

Hard vs soft suspension

  • Soft suspension: Profile still visible, but you can't edit it.
  • Hard suspension: Profile is removed from Maps and Search entirely.

Common causes

  1. Keyword stuffing the business name.
  2. Address mismatch (virtual office, UPS Store, PO Box).
  3. Service-area business listing a public address.
  4. Duplicate listings for the same business.
  5. Sudden category change.
  6. Editing too many fields at once on a new profile.

The reinstatement process

  1. Don't panic-edit. Editing during suspension often makes it worse.
  2. Gather proof: utility bill, lease, business license, insurance certificate — all matching the GBP name and address.
  3. Submit the reinstatement form in Google Business Profile Help.
  4. Wait 3–14 business days. Don't submit multiple requests.

What to do if denied

Reply to the denial email with additional documentation. Most second appeals succeed if you fix the underlying issue (e.g. remove the keyword stuffing, switch to a service-area listing).

How to avoid suspension going forward

  • Use your real legal business name only.
  • If you don't serve customers at your address, make it a service-area business and hide the address.
  • Don't edit hours, name, and category in the same session.
  • Keep a single profile per location.
