Do Google Posts Help Your GMB Rankings in 2026? (Tested)

We tested Google Posts across 40 client accounts for 6 months. Here's what we found about their real impact on Map Pack rankings, click-through rate.

The test setup

We split 40 Kectick clients into two groups for 6 months:

  • Group A (20): 1 Google Post per week, every week.
  • Group B (20): Zero Google Posts.

Same review velocity, same citation profile, same on-page SEO baseline. Tracked Map Pack rank for each client's top 3 keywords weekly.

The results

  • Map Pack rank: Group A averaged +1.4 positions better than Group B over 6 months.
  • GMB profile clicks: Group A saw +22% more profile clicks.
  • Direction requests: Group A saw +18% more direction requests.
  • Phone calls: No statistically significant difference.

What this means

Google Posts help — modestly. They're not a magic ranking lever, but they correlate with better visibility and click-through rate.

More importantly: posting weekly keeps your profile "active," which Google uses as a freshness signal. Profiles that go 60+ days without a post tend to drift down 1–2 positions.

What to post

  • Offers ("$50 off first-time service this month") — best for CTR.
  • Updates ("We're now serving Jersey City and Hoboken") — best for category expansion.
  • Events (open house, seasonal promo) — best for engagement.

Avoid generic "We're the best plumber in Brooklyn" posts — Google's spam filter ignores them.

How often to post

Once per week is the minimum. Twice per week is optimal. More than 3x per week shows diminishing returns.

Kectick writes and publishes weekly Google Posts for clients.
