Service Area Business vs Storefront on Google

How service-area businesses (SABs) differ from storefronts on Google Business Profile, which ranks better in 2026.

What's the difference?

  • Storefront: customers visit you. Your address is shown on Maps.
  • Service Area Business (SAB): you visit customers. Your address is hidden; service areas are listed instead.

If you don't have a public-facing location, you must list as a SAB. Listing a residential address as a storefront is a fast path to suspension.

Does SAB rank worse than storefront?

Slightly, in dense markets — Google weighs distance from the searcher, and SABs are scored from your hidden address. But:

  • SABs can rank in multiple cities within their service radius.
  • A well-optimized SAB beats a poorly-optimized storefront every time.

How to set up a SAB correctly

  1. In GBP dashboard, go to Info → Address.
  2. Check "I deliver goods and services to my customers".
  3. Check "Hide my address".
  4. Add your service areas — up to 20 cities, or a single radius.
  5. Make sure your service-area list matches the cities on your website.

Common SAB mistakes

  • Listing a virtual office or UPS Store as the address (suspension trigger).
  • Listing service areas more than 2 hours from your address.
  • Forgetting to hide the address — leaves your home visible on Maps.
